A Reformed Baptist Church in Suffolk VA

A Reformed Baptist Church in Suffolk VA

West Suffolk Baptist Church is a Reformed Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA, and exists to glorify God through worship, discipleship, prayer and fellowship, and to spread a passion for God’s glory throughout Suffolk unto the uttermost parts of the world.

WSBC logoAs Reformed Baptists, we emphasize the sovereignty of God through the activities of worship, discipleship, prayer and fellowship. Each week there are ordinarily four scheduled teaching times – the Sunday worship service, the Sunday morning discipleship, Sunday evening Bible Study, and the Wednesday evening Bible Study. We gather regularly for fellowship and prayer each Wednesday evening, and for fellowship after the worship service the first Sunday of the month.

During  2018 and into 2019, we have studied the book of Matthew,  looking at the continuing ministry of Jesus Christ through His spiritual body, the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23), the church of the living God (1 Tim 3:15), from His present location seated at the right hand of the Father (Psalm 110:1-3).

On the first Sunday of each month, our focus is upon the morning worship service, and concludes with our observance of the Lord’s Table. The service is followed by a First Sunday Fellowship meal in our vestibule. Consequently, on First Sundays, we have neither our discipleship classes nor an evening service. Please see our schedule of services for details.

Our Lord’s Day evening services often include a deeper dive into topics from the morning message, and have also included a study of 1 & 2 Peter, gleaning wisdom from the experiences of an aged apostle following three decades of faithful ministry in a culture much like our own,  a brief study of Covenant Theology, followed by a study of the origins and trustworthiness of the English Bible, Church History, an overview of the books of Chronicles, and a study of the 1689 London Baptist Confession. Current study information is posted weekly on Grace Notes.

Our Lord’s Day discipleship class is led by Elder Mike Prince. We are currently studying personal evangelism. We recently completed a series of  studies  based on Pastor Don Whitney’s book Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life. Information on our current study is available on the Sunday Discipleship page.

Each Wednesday evening, following our fellowship meal at 6:00, we have a short Bible study, usually led by Elder Mike Myers or Elder Scott Thomas, followed by a time of corporate prayer. Recent studies include Puritan author Thomas Watson’s book, All Things for Good, based on Romans 8:28. We recently completed a study of John Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion, followed by a Steven J. Lawson’s The Doctrines of Grace in the Gospel of John. Information on the current study is on the Wednesday Evening Study page.
